It feels like we’ve been on a rollercoaster for the past two years but the good news is that we seem to be pulling back into the station to exit the ride. How did we get here and where do we go now? Let’s take a quick look!

2020: The Year of Change
In 2020, the world changed and so did how the majority of businesses operated. While many businesses and industries were deemed essential and remained open, thousands more did not. Several clients we worked with in 2020 benefitted from staying the course with their paid marketing strategy but it was not without adjustments to budget, messaging and placements of that message. As we always say, there isn’t a one size fits all answer and you need have the right marketing partner that can help you pivot quickly.

2021: Return to Normal?
In mid-2021, government mandates started to ease and business owners saw a “return to normal” on the horizon. But what many industries, like automotive and home improvement saw, was a dramatic uptick in leads and business. Profits were higher than forecasted and employees worked longer hours to accommodate the increase in demand. For many businesses, 2021 was a successful year. So what comes next – another year of record-breaking sales?

2022: Current State
Well, we are almost four months into 2022 and the message we are now hearing is that business is down. But we ask -- are leads really down or are you measuring against a boom? A more appropriate gauge would be to compare Q1 2022 to Q1 2019 -- the last time businesses were truly stable and consistent. This can give you a better, more realistic picture of how you’re performing.
